Dance – Dance Conservatory

Our pre professional dance conservatory is an exceptional dance program offering technique based classes at the highest level.  The conservatory is designed for dancers who have a desire to dance to a higher level of technique, performance and artistry with the goal of continuing dance in higher education or as a professional career.  Additionally, In the Spotlight offers a superior Ballet Conservatory program that provides advanced training in ballet technique, pointe and variations, providing a pre-professional training program for serious ballet students. All conservatory Dancers are grouped according to ability level with age consideration.



BALLET

The heart of our ballet program is founded on classical ballet technique and instilling in each dancer a passion for dance. We believe in training our dancers with strong ballet principles in addition to developing in them a love and joy for dance. 



Intermediate A Ballet

Intermediate A Ballet continues to build on the skills and technique learned from previous beginning ballet training. Students will work on exercises that are aimed at conditioning the body to build both strength and flexibility. Through the use of barre and center technique, dancers will explore and expand their skills in correct alignment and placement, turnout and foot articulation, and jumping and turning movements. Intermediate A Ballet also places a great emphasis on developing dancers musicality and spatial awareness. 




Intermediate B Ballet

Intermediate B Ballet continues to develop and expand the dancers’ knowledge and understanding of ballet principles and technique. Students will continue to develop both strength and flexibility through the use of more advanced technique and exercises. Dancers are encouraged to perform more advanced barre and center technique while attempting to maintain proper alignment and posture. A deeper understanding of musicality and how to properly execute a movement is also greatly emphasized. Within the Intermediate B Ballet level, female dancers also begin working toward the foot, ankle, leg, and core strength necessary for potential future pointe training. 




Intermediate C Ballet and Pointe

Intermediate C Ballet and Pointe encourages dancers to continue developing their skills in technique as well as their skills as an artist. Students are encouraged to progress their ballet training through barre and center technique, and pointe training. Dancers ever continue to develop their understanding and knowledge of ballet technique as they work toward more advanced skills and exercises. Strength and flexibility as well as musicality and artistic expression are all used to develop the students’ ballet technique. In addition to their technique classes, students work toward advancing their strength and stamina in pointe shoes. Pointe work is reserved for dancers who have demonstrated proper understanding of technique and adequate strength in the feet, legs, and core.

The heart of our jazz program is founded on classic jazz technique and instilling in each dancer a passion for dance. We believe in training our dancers with strong technical principles in addition to developing in them a love and joy for dance. 



Intermediate A Jazz

Intermediate A Jazz continues to build on the skills and technique learned from previous beginning jazz training. Students will work on exercises that are aimed at conditioning the body to build both strength and flexibility. Through the use of across the floor and center technique, dancers will explore and expand their skills in correct alignment, clean body lines and placement, turnout and parallel positions, as well as jumping and turning movements. Intermediate A Jazz also places a great emphasis on developing dancers musicality and spatial awareness. 




Intermediate B Jazz

Intermediate B Jazz continues to develop and expand the dancers’ knowledge and understanding of jazz principals and technique. Students will continue to develop both strength and flexibility through the use of more advanced technique and exercises. Dancers are encouraged to perform more advanced across the floor and center technique while attempting to maintain proper alignment, clean body lines, and posture. A deeper understanding of musicality and how to properly execute a movement is also greatly emphasized. Within the Intermediate B Jazz level, dancers also begin working on the artistic exercises of improvisation and audition preparation. 




Advanced Jazz

Advanced Jazz encourages dancers to continue developing their skills in technique as well as their skills as an artist. Students are encouraged to progress their jazz training through across the floor, combinations of choreography and center technique. Dancers ever continue to develop their understanding and knowledge of jazz technique as they work toward more advanced skills and exercises. Strength and flexibility as well as musicality and artistic expression are all used to develop the students’ jazz technique. In addition to their technique classes, students work toward advancing their strength and stamina. Dancers continue working on the artistic exercises of improvisation and audition preparation in a competitive and supportive environment. 




CONTEMPORARY

Contemporary has become a popular genre promoting versatility and improvisation; giving dancers the freedom to explore emotions as they connect body and mind through movement. Contemporary is important to study for dancers who want to be on a competitive dance team or high school dance company, as most high school dance companies are contemporary/modern based. 



TAP

Tap is an important dance form for dancersserving as a critical building block for all dance forms as it develops a strong foundation of coordination, rhythm, timing and musicality. Lower levels of tap will master basic tap technique while intermediate and advanced tap levels will learn more intricate and complex tap steps involving syncopated rhythms. 



HIP HOP

Hip Hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements. All of our music, dances and costumes are tasteful, modest and age appropriate. 



TURNS AND LEAPS

The turns and Leaps class will dissect these two technical movements: teaching basic building blocks to master a variety of turns and leaps which are used in jazz and in choreography. Great emphasis will be placed on the body’s center, from which all movements begin and end, making it possible to maintain balance and control while executing turns, high extensions and powerful leaps. Spotting techniques will be studied to properly execute a variety of turns to reduce the dizzying effect of repeated rotation. 



ACRO

This class is designed to promote excellence in flexibility, strength, balance, limbering and tumbling This program will help dancers and non-dancers master tumbling skills that are commonly used in dance: walkovers, aerials, back handsprings, aerial walkovers and layouts, while instilling grace, flexibility, balance, and strength to seamlessly, beautifully, and safely perform all skills on a stage or hard floor.
