Meet Our Dance Staff

Ashley Gorden

Director of In The Spotlight Dance Conservatory

Ashley originally opened and continuously ran In The Spotlight Dance Company in 2006, before bringing her program to America’s Kids in Motion in 2018.   She has trained hundreds of aspiring dancers, and has sent many onto successful collegiate and professional dance careers.  Ashley is passionate about dance education.  She looks to instill respect for self, instructors, peers choreography and the process of training as a dancers into each student who walks into her class.

Alexandra Sullivan

Director of Above The Barre

Alexandra Sullivan grew up in Utah where she trained in Ballet, Pointe and Jazz at Wasatch Ballet Conservatory. She continued her training on the East coast at North Carolina Dance Theatre, a professional Ballet company. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 2016 with a BA in Communications and a minor in dance with a Contemporary emphasis. During her studies, she performed with and choreographed for BYU DancEnsemble and had her choreography featured at the Northwest American College Dance Festival in 2016. Dance has always been an important part of her life. She enjoys sharing her love of dance with her students and seeing them grow in confidence and poise. 

Aubree Robbins

Ballet Director

Aubree began her training in classical ballet at the age of 10 at Cynthia Merrill School of Performing Arts. She has since trained in American Ballet Theater curriculum with California Arts Academy and the Severance Ballet Conservatory. Aubree graduated in December of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance from CSU Fresno. Throughout her career, she has performed in numerous ballet productions and events both locally and abroad. Since 2012 she has taught as head of the Ballet Department for In The Spotlightand has since taken several students to participate in the highly acclaimed Youth America Grand Prix. She is passionate about dance and hopes to impart a joy and love for dance in each of her students. 

Rachel Durant

Rachel first began her pre-professional dance training when In the Spotlight opened in 2006 under the direction of Ashley Gorden. She danced competitively as an In The Spotlight, Company Member for eight years receiving many high point, technical awards and scholarships. She had the opportunity to travel across the country as a Company Member with LA Dance Magic. Rachel has performed in local shows such as the 2010 St. Agnes Fashion Show and has played numerous lead roles for the Lively Arts Foundation’s Nutcracker. Rachel has taken master classes with many industry professionals and has worked directly with award-winning teachers and choreographers such as Chris Dupre, Jackie Sleight, Tina D’Amato, Duncan Cooper, DJ Guthrie, Christian Vincent, and Dejan Tubic. Additionally, as an ITS Company Member, she has had special performance opportunities such as being in the opening number for the the New York, Radio City Rockettes’ Christmas Spectacular and performing as a munchkin in the Wizard of Oz National Tour when these prestigious companies came to Fresno. Rachel was also among the first to be offered the opportunity to audition for America’s Got Talent. She began teaching dance at In the Spotlight in 2013 and started working with the Company Program in 2014. In addition to receiving choreography awards, her routines have been recognized for technical skill, Best in Show, and judge’s standout awards throughout California. While she specializes in jazz, lyrical, and contemporary movement, Rachel has always loved all styles of dance and encourages her students to be the most versatile artists they can be. 

Caitlin Stahl

Caitlin has been dancing and training for 18+ years in dance in the Central Valley as well as across the United States in master classes and workshops as well as performing in local shows. Caitlin was born and raised in Fresno and is currently studying theatre education at Fresno City College and just recently returned back home from Florida where she was interning with Disney World Entertainment and left with a certification in show production. Caitlin grew up competing in dance and received many titles from her years of traveling with her competitive dance teams. Her favorite styles are tap and contemporary as well as musical theatre. She is so proud to have been  part of the Above The Barre and In The Spotlights competitive team and watching her students shine on stage for the past 4 years. Caitlin believes in teaching her students to be artists and to not be defined by the boundaries that surround the dance community. She pushes her students to reach outside of the box and be creative individuals as well as giving them the fundamentals and training to do so on stage as well as in the classroom in a safe and loving space. 

Courtney Joy Shearin

Courtney has always had a passion for the art of dance and knew that it was going to end up being an important part of her life. She has danced for over thirteen years and for ten of those years, she was taught under the American Ballet Theater (ABT) curriculum through California Arts Academy. During these years she has performed in many productions and has landed various roles such as playing the part of Helena in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Cinderella from “The Sleeping Beauty,” and The Rose from “Beauty and the Beast: A Story Ballet.” After graduating from high school, she had the dream of being a ballet teacher, and has taught for a year while attending Fresno City College to obtain her AS in Biological Sciences before transferring to a CSU to study nursing. Due to her background of many years of studying in dance, and for being a teacher’s assistant for several years, she knew she would be well prepared to pass the baton to the next generation. She looks forward toward sharing her love of dance to her students. 

Serena Anderson

Serena Anderson primarily danced at Backstage Academy of Dance, in Turlock California for 17 years. Throughout her time there she trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, and contemporary, while also attending dance conventions and competitions. Serena has been teaching dance since she was a sophomore in high-school and loves every second of it. She has worked with recreational classes as well as competitive team classes that range in kids from 3 years old to 16 years old. Currently she is on the dance team at Fresno State and working towards a degree in Education. Serena joined the In The Spotlight Faculty in 2017 and looks forward to having a continued impact in the lives of young dancers.  

Annalise Rodriguez

Annalise is 20 years old and has been dancing for 18 years. She trained in jazz, tap, and lyrical with For Dancers Only Dance Center and ballet with Severance Ballet Conservatory. She has also been dancing competitively since she was 6 years old. Annalise went to San Joaquin Memorial High School and was on the Varsity Pep team all 4 years. She is currently in her 3rd year at Fresno State, focusing on a business degree. She is currently enjoying her 3rd year on the Fresno State Dance Team where she performs many styles including Hip Hop.

Tina Flanagan-Vosburg

Tina has been teaching dance in the Central Valley for over 30 years, working with children 2 through adult where she has taught ballet, creative dance, tap, belly dancing and exercise stretching with conditioning.  She is kind, knowledgeable and her love of teaching shines through in each class she teaches. 

Michaela Stiles

Michaela began dancing at the age of three. She danced at All Star Dance Academy, a small studio in Bakersfield, CA. where she continued dancing until the age of thirteen. After which, she moved to Lenore Smith’s Dance Arts Centre to study under tap great Lenore Smith, while there she dance competitively for three years. Michaela also had the opportunity to dance for Stars Theatre Company as a dancer in several local productions.  Michaela has further increased her dance education by attending multiple master classes with PowerHouse Perscussive Dance Troupe. Miss Michaela danced with her High School dance team while training in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, and Irish hard shoe and soft shoe. She loves teaching! She says that dancing was she passion and outlet as a child. She loves to watch kids build the confidence that comes with dance!
